Batik Countdown

Just one more week to go until Batik: Spectacular Textiles of Java opens at the Asian. As part of the countdown, I wanted to share another beauty from the Museum's permanent collection.

This circa 1900 Javanese cotton sarong has tendrils enclosed within the iconic elongated triangles at the border -- a great juxtaposition of sharp and soft lines.
